The Family Haven took on strong competition from the UK's top charities to scoop third prize in their category in the 2008 Charities Online Accounts Awards. The awards, organised by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), promote transparency in the third sector by rewarding the charities that publish the most friendly and accessible online financial reports.
John Low, Chief Executive of CAF said " In the 21st century donors want to know their money will be spent well. Openness and transparency are essential to maintain and build public trust. The winners of these awards have confidently encourage public scrutiny by presenting their accounts in a friendly and accessible way".
Claire McGrath Fundraising and Public Relations Manager said: " It is great to have our commitment to high quality financial reporting acknowledged through these awards. We have an excellent team of Trustees which includes Doreen McLellan, The Very Reverend Nick Bury and of course treasurer John Price who prepares and submits our accounts".
The Charity's financial statements are displayed on their website www.thefamilyhaven.com which also features case studies, photographs and information on their patron Kate Winslet's involvement.
